Ray, speaking of blatant lies, if you get a chance, the Krugman "Great Unraveling" is a good read on the political calculus of the lies of Bushistas. Even tho' he's an economist, he poses insightful political questions, one of which derives from a young Kissinger's PhD thesis: "what are the limits, how far are they willing to go?". Dr. K was talking about European revolutionaries, who were dismissed because no one thought they would lie as blatantly as they did, or be as vicious.

We'll unfortunately see how far they're willing to go, in this election cycle. I'm fascinated, in the same way one might watch an impending trainwreck.

Raymond:

I'm very concerned that the Bush White House operates more like Stalin's Kremlin, Hitler's Bundeswehr or Saddam's Baath Party than a liberal Western democracy.

You probably see it differently.

You bet I do. I have more freedom under Mr Bush than I would under those three despots, and so do you. The very fact that we can engage in political dialog and openly criticize our leaders without being "disappeared" into the night is proof of that.

And this justifies your lying, right?
