I knew, in the 60's, that Capitalism was the way to go, and that Socialist economics was headed for the dustbin.

Did you happen to live in California at the time? My parents were trying to run a bunch of businesses out here in the 70s. It really was hell apparently. They loved Ronald Reagan, this was before his presidency, when he was just a former governor. I was just a little kid but I remember thinking my parents were "out of it"-LOL. I should say though that if my parents were alive today they would never support the current republican agenda. They were for the legalization of drugs, things like that.

Wrt the socialists hiding behind free trade, that is what scares me about them. We have some very serious issues to deal with wrt trade matters, but both parties are grandstanding to a degree that I don't trust either. Ordinarily I'd say that republicans were more on track with the correct policies on trade, except we really, really have major problems with unregulated work visas and even in this time of high unemployment, republicans like Orrin Hatch are in the pocket of big corps out there trying to get visa caps extended! It is a travesty. On the dem side, you've got a bunch of people like Gephardt who want to go to war with Mexico. There is no happy medium.
