Think your phone bill is out of control?

A 53-year-old Troy man was shocked when he
opened an AT&T Wireless bill for $36,876 for a cell phone account he didn't even know he had.

Troy police said he is one of a growing number of victims of identity fraud.

"I'm sure this individual was quite shocked to get this," said Troy Police Lt. Steve Zavislak. "It's probably the biggest phone bill I have ever seen. You're talking $6,000 a day."

The calls were made Aug. 15-21 to such places as Kenya, Nigeria and Germany. The man, whom police declined to identify, said he had no account with AT&T, Zavislak said.

AT&T spokesman Marty Nee said Thursday in a phone interview from Boston someone must have used the phone constantly to rack up such an expensive bill that fast.

"That's one of the highest bills I've heard of," Nee said. "It must have been rapid-fire dialing." ..........
