By Doug Patton - Axcess News Oct 26, 2003 Anyone who still believes that America is not in a culture war should consider the case of Army Lieutenant General William G. Boykin, the Pentagon's Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, then think about those on the left who are in full-blown, mean-spirited, attack mode on the commander in chief whose job they covet. First, let us consider the general. Gen. Boykin is a highly decorated expert on counter-terrorism. He rose through the ranks of Delta Force to a position in the top-secret Joint Special Operations Command, through the CIA, to become commander of the Army's Special Forces. This is a man who understands the mentality of the terrorist fanatics we are fighting, and who knows what it takes to defeat them. The general has just one little flaw: he is a Christian. No, not the hypocritical, pew-warming type who visits a nominal house of worship occasionally and listens to a watered down, dead social gospel calling for "tolerance" of every form of sin and degradation known to man; but rather, a true believer who has accepted Christ as his Savior and who takes the words of his Lord to heart and applies them in his daily life. In today's politically correct America, this makes him a bigot. Gen. Boykin actually believes Christ's words when he reads them; words like, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) The general takes his Bible seriously when he reads passages like, "...at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:10-11) I have no doubt that the general believes deeply in the assurance in the familiar John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." And I'm quite sure he understands the admonition found in Ephesians 6:12: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Of course, no one would ever have known about Gen. Boykin's "bigotry" and "intolerance" if he had not had the audacity to cross the line by actually practicing his First Amendment right to freedom of speech and religion - in a church! Proudly wearing his dress uniform, the general spoke of terrorists as "demonic" and of their source as "the principalities of darkness." He said that they hate us because America's roots are "Judeo-Christian." He also recounted his mission to track down a ruthless Somali warlord who had mocked American efforts to catch him by saying that his god, Allah, would protect him. "Well," Gen. Boykin told the congregation, "my God is bigger than his god. I knew my God was a real God and his was an idol." Now contrast this good and decent man's comments with those on the left who scream daily for Gen. Boykin's removal on the pretext that his words encourage terrorism. Meanwhile, these same critics use their own right to free speech daily to undermine American foreign policy. They call the war in Iraq "a scheme concocted in Texas" for political gain (Ted Kennedy). They call President Bush "a liar" (Dennis Kucinich and Howard Dean) and "a gang leader" (Al Sharpton), while referring to our coalition of allies as "a fraudulent coalition" (John Kerry). I leave it to you to decide whose free speech encourages the terrorists.
