Which part is a lie, that it's compensation, or that he deserves it?

That it is compensation. He does deserve it, as he earned it prior to his leaving the company. It is not compensation, it is deferred compensation, a totally different thing. Deferred compensation is a debt owed Cheney by the company.

Cheney appropriately hedged the debt to insure that there can be no proper allegation of conflict of interests (he had already contributed to charity all contingent payment arrangements [stock options]; the hedging of this item at his own expense was total overkill to eliminate the possibility of any allegation of conflict. Yet, liberals who want to mislead people like you (i.e., those who are easily misled), have spread the notion that it is somehow compensation.

It is just another typical liberal Al Franken lie. We're used to it.
