TOKYO -- Sony Corp. said it will trim personnel, factories, and overhead as well as make its product-development process more efficient, as part of a long-awaited plan for rejuvenating its flagging electronics business.

The plan, which has been in the works since Sony unveiled shockingly poor earnings in April, also included a reshuffling of business divisions that put Ken Kutaragi, the creator of Sony's hit PlayStation game console, more firmly in charge of the next-generation products the company hopes will lead future growth.
