Mathman,

I agree that I don't understand what might be "wrong" with the trading strategy you described so long as the trader is not connected in any way with management of the fund. However, if the fund managers or people influenced by the fund managers are making those trades, it should be illegal because it can place the fund manager in conflict with his/her clients' interests. I don't follow a lot of media and maybe that explains why I haven't seen the activity you describe mentioned in the media.
