"...looting the company out of $600 million..."

Jurors see tape of Kozlowski's party

Prosecutors say half of $2M for the birthday party on Sardinia came from Tyco.
October 28, 2003: 5:01 PM EST

NEW YORK (CNN) - A tape of the $2 million birthday bash former Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski threw for his wife on the island of Sardinia three years ago was shown to jurors in Kozlowski's larceny trial Tuesday.

Jurors saw the 30-minute video of the 40th birthday party for Kozlowski's wife as part of a case that accuses him and former Tyco finance chief Mark Swartz of looting the company out of $600 million.

>>AC, any thoughts on Buffet's "Import Certificate" proposal?<<

Yes. It's bonkers. Buffett surprises me by often coming across as some kind of closet big government socialist. He also supports a more (i.e. more than now) progressive income tax and various other crackpot left wing schemes - just ask Ahnold, who dumped Warren five seconds after Warren opened his mouth. I can only ascribe it to some kind of conscious or subconscious guilt.

It is also a strikingly naive proposal, with enormous implications for trade and capital flows around the globe. The guy must have exceeded his limit for Cherry Cokes.

The "problem" of the trade deficit, if indeed it is a problem, which I think it is not, will be solved, to the extent it needs to be solved, by free market mechanisms.
