Depending on where and when you were born take the time and go back and look at some of the neighborhood houses which seemed big when you were a kid. Mine was 1050 sq ft with 4 kids 2 adults and maybe 8 pets all at the same time. It certainly seemed like enough space at the time.

Americans waste so much living space it is pitiful. I lived in Japan for a few decades and they know how to be efficient in their living spaces.
