Like a T-Bill? The problem is one of risk weighted returns, not absolute or potential returns.

Investments don't always go up in value. Putting some away where they don't go down is part of the success equation.

I think putting money in Cisco and hoping for a 5x return and getting a 20x return should cause someone to take half of the money and tuck it where it ain't going away, take half of the remainder and put it in the next Cisco and leave half of the remainder where it is. For luck.

In the WORST case you end up better off than you wanted to be. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.
