Kerry told me that Bush was planning to invade Iraq even before he was elected, that he had spoke to the UK defense mninister and Blair was was in on the deal. So they used (-11 as their main excuse, then made their case, in a rush, mainly for the oil. (Kerry didn't tell me about the oil but I assume that was what pushed them, also to steal the November elections by waging a war to distract everyone from the economic issues). Kery also said that Bush was going to invade no matter what, and so he voted yes with the caveat to hold Bush's feet to the fire if he didn't go through the UN as Bush promised the Senate he would. Bush lied to the Senate and everyone else. It was all a big neocon scam, but had legitimate reasons behind it too, at least arguably. Nobody misses Saddam Hussein. But the tragedy is the rush to war and poor planning costs us hundreds of lives and hundreds of billions extra.
