in order to remain a philosopher While Strauss may have decided to remain philosophical himself, he does seem to advocate that once his students have pondered a question unto some internal epiphany they will find further introspection useless. They then must embrace the goals and the actions leading to those goals without later questioning their original moment of discovery. We have seen recently the consequence of this approach. Goals, with no plans and ever changing rationalizations for what are insisted to be eternal truths, when in fact they might have been just a whim reenforced by advisors with their own agendas and and a greater appreciation of Machiavelli.
