Or it could be a parable to teach us a lesson about how to live to maximize our happiness - which is God's desire for us.

Doesn't that seem a little shallow?...the thought that God would create us just live to be happy?? I believe God created us...for Him. Everything that we are, do, will be, is to His glory.

I would dare say that teaching us how to be happy on Earth is more important to God than teaching us how He made Earth.

God showed us in what manner he began the earth, so that we might understand in what manner he will finish his work on earth. in as many days as the earth was made, so shall it be concluded. that is why God chose six days and rested on the seventh. it was not an accident that God chose six days. God could have created the earth in the twinkling of an eye had he not desired to teach us a principle of six days work, seventh day rest.
