Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi, in relating to the first murder, Cain’s slaying of Abel, writes: “The strife and jealousy between Cain and Abel arose over Eretz Yisrael. The issue was who would become Adam’s heir, thereby inheriting the Land and clinging to the divine. That person’s brother would be nothing more than a husk. Then what happened, happened. Abel was killed and Cain left G-d’s presence, i.e., he left that land: (Genesis 4:14) ‘Behold, today You have banished me from the Land, and I am to be hidden from Your Face.’” (Kuzari, Ma’amar 2:14)

That first murder in history was due to jealousy and the desire to rule over Eretz Yisrael. Since then, for thousands of years, the various “Cainites” have continued to murder Jews, and for the same reason: their jealousy and unwillingness to resign themselves to the existence of the Jewish People in general, the Chosen People who bring G-d’s word to the world, or to their specific control over Eretz Yisrael.

Yet, just as Cain was banished from Eretz Yisrael, so, too, shall Israel’s enemies never rise up in the Land, nor take hold of it.

The main argument of the Arabs and their supporters - that the Jewish People are “occupiers” and that “the occupation corrupts,” as a justification for the murder of infants, children, women, the elderly, even entire families - may G-d avenge them - is an ancient, false claim. Rashi already quotes it in the beginning of his commentary on Genesis: “Should the nations say to Israel, ‘You are thieves, for you conquered Eretz Yisrael,’ they can respond, ‘The whole world belongs to G-d. He created it and He gave to whomever He wished.’” (on Genesis 1:1)

Eretz Yisrael was given exclusively to the Jewish People, as it says, “On that day the L-rd made a covenant with Abraham, saying, ‘To your descendants I have given this land.’” (Genesis 15:18) Only by means of Jewish control over all parts of the Land will redemption, goodness, joy and light come to all of mankind.

The various sons of darkness who rise up against the sons of light, like Cain attacking Abel, shall disappear like smoke
