Interesting. I didn't realize that fewer than 1 in 10 private sector workers was a union member. I thought it was a little higher than that.

That description makes it appear that unions will not be a potent force in Presidential politics. The geography of the electoral college in particular causes a problem for unions who want to have an influence on elections. Democrats traditionally have difficulty winning states in the South and West (except California). Union membership is concentrated elsewhere, it appears.
