The funny thing is that the heatwave, and some other recent events, suggest that they have a defective welfare state, because they are not as wealthy as they might be if they were more pro- business, and because they are used to satisfying workers before customers. Thus, it is easier to commit public money to preservationist efforts, permitting certain out of the way villages to be subsidized, than to cure the deficiencies in the public health system recently revealed........
