I think that everyone agrees that Saddam had to go, but as you point out, the way the Bush went about it was Bass Ackwards. He should have let the weapons inspectors do their job while building consensus and a coalition of the world nations.

The way that Bush did this we end up with all those nice side benefits that you are listing...and there's plenty more to add to the list:

h. Pork for insiders like Haliburton.
i. Civilians killed/injured not listed with military.
j. Reduced cooperation with many nations, critical for fighting the war on terror.
k. War in Iraq does not stop bin Laden and his terrorist network.
l. US is not safer from terrorist attack. Rumsfeld memo verifies this.

Gee Whiz it goes on and on...
