Tom Friedman is not an editor....he is a columnist and is generally quite liberal. He is currently covering his ass because he came out in favor of the war but for more pragmatic means than the Bushies....he wants to start a major culture change in the area largely through education of the young. To start that process required some mideast dictator to be overthrown so the school systems and textbooks could be changed....since the Bushies selected Saddam, Friedman endorsed it. If you read all of his columns you will learn he has serious second thoughts, particularly about the way Bush has conducted the whole operation. As a result Friedman has been very critical of Bush.
