Party Time,

Welcome back! Nice to hear a voice of reason returned.

W/R/T some of your comments on how Iraq will be won, I was about to fly off the handle on how hopeless your suggestions were, until I read your disclaimer that no progress can possibly be made under the present mal-Administration. That is the truest statement of the 21st Century.

The Bushies are still a bellicose and bullying breed. Their preferred solution to anything remains war. Too bad reality has dealt them such a weak hand in the aftermath of successful military campaigns.

Basically, for the last few dozen millenia, the purpose of imperial aggression has been plunder, pillage and profit. George Bush may be unique in the world's history being the first emperor ever to completely destroy his own nation's treasury while engaging in naked aggression. Then again, it would appear that Bush's allegiance isn't to America, but rather to a tightly organized cabal of co-conspirators engaged in the greatest heist the world has ever seen.

Here's the new "America", on display in all their naked and wretched excess:

even though it'll probably mean more work and less time for me
Oh, we will keep you fully occupied. Count on it. :-)

If DUray is a buddy, you should rather seriously question your choice of friends. This is an EXTREMELY bad sign.

the end result would become more, not less, terrorism. This has happened.
Since the Iraq war there have been .... terrorist attacks on US soil. Fill in the number.

I predict Iraq ultimately will get carved into two nations.
Maybe. Iran is a counterargument against that.

the Turks would be satisfied so long as the Kurds don't get their own separate nation.
Oh, yes, and the Turks. The LAST thing they want is a separate Kurd nation. This supposedly is one of the reasons they were unwilling to cooperate with the US in the run up to the war.

One nation will include a Kurd, Sunni and Shite combo;
Recipe for disaster without a dictator to hold things together.

And who knows, perhaps Iran would even cede some of its waterway access to the new Shite nation so that the new combo Kurd/Sunni/Shite nation could also maintain waterway access.
Wake up. You're dreaming.

If the U.S. insists on a major role here, never will there be the possibility of peace!
Why? I don't see that as a given.

The U.S. president will also have to communicate with Palestinian-elected leader Arafat, and thus work toward a bullypulpit solution among the Israelis.
THe US will HAVE to adopt a more balanced ME policy. And that is a major domestic politics problem. THat's why it hasn't happened yet.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of the above will happen or even come close to happening under a Republican Administration.
You wouldn't, of course.

Moreover, the U.S. should take the lead in sponsoring international forums that highlight how jobs and fair trade, economic opportunity, if you will, are preferable to a life of terrorism.
I'm SURE that the thugs will be HIGHLY impressed.

In other words, think with an educated mind instead of a military mind.
You and Ray, of course, like your idol, that coward Slick Willie, denigrate the military mind. May I point out that your sweet sounding well intentioned initiatives have often failed and just as often backfired? How many times has the ME mess been settled by diplomacy? Why, I remember Saint Jimmy Carter assuring us he had done it!

You also discount the successes of the hardnosed, kick-butt approach. Where is Hitler now? Tojo?

not try to force the sameoldism that a lot of people in the world hate down the throats of those who live in Third World nations.
We are NOT going to surrender. Got it?
