The bombs in Iraq are killing infidels and believers alike. Legitimacy is the one thing they fear most. No matter whom they kill, they believe their aims and methods to be legitimate. So long as this is America-the-army-of-occupation then they have legitimacy and we don't. If we were actually smart enough to bring in a couple of hundred thousand troops from other UN countries, then we would at least have a fifty-fifty shot at making something out of this mess. Until then, we have just set up a very expensive and very dusty shooting gallery.
