Well, even we assume Syria is as strong as Iraq in 1990 (right before Iraq's first gulf war, and Iraq also had WMD at that time), it still doesn't mean much for Syria in a full scale war against Israel/US forces, IMO. Unless you have a case that Syria's WMDs are much more effective and capable to hit Israel even under overwhelming Israel/US air and laser guided missile strikes or pre-empt strikes.

By “helpless”, I mean Syria would be fighting the war alone, no support from any other major power can be seen so far.
