That bizarre primitivism may be a psychological problem in many of the extremists, but the sight of the other side creating shopping centers on ecologically special land can be enough to drive folks to that. We need restraint on both ends. I think in this case that the onus is on the development oriented to reassure the preservationists that there is some reasonable threshold of respect for land that is especially ecologically valuable.

I posted an article the other day inviting Bush to do a "Sister Soulja" on some of the extremists on Bush's side. I think that is called for in this case, too. Sensible folks need to step up and yank the chains of the nuttier components of their bases every now and again. That's statesmanship. We have too much politics, too little statesmanship.
