Peter,

Re: If the government is so untrustworthy...
why do liberals want to RAISE taxes?

It is an inconsistent position.

Say what? Who is asking to raise taxes? This is a blatant misrepresentation of the position of many of the Democratic Presidential candidates who are arguing in favor of repealing the ill-conceived and fiscally ruinous (not to mention plain stupid) tax cuts that Bush crammed down the nation's throat.

No one in their right mind wants to bankrupt this great nation. Except, apparently, George Bush and the malevolent Grover Norquist.

The inconsistent, not to mention hypocritical, position is that of George Bush who (as usual) speaks out of both sides of his mouth in order to cheat and steal from Americans. Do you recall that he wanted his first tax cuts in order to trim unnecessary surpluses? Right. Then when the surpluses disappeared, he created a whole new rhetoric and sales pitch to sell the next round of tax cuts? What kind of suckers does he take us for? Bush is destroying the future of the youth of America with his grotesque fiscal irresponsibility. He's the most ludicrously out of touch fiscal wrecking ball that has ever unfortunately sat in the Oval Office. Codpiece notwithstanding.

It is an inconsistent position.

Indeed, I've found that Republicans tend toward hypocrisy and Democrats tend toward folksy socialism, but cross-infection is not unheard of.
