Andrew Corporation Acquires Yantai Fine Cable Company Assets. Orland Park IL. . .November 3, 2003. . .Andrew Corporation (NASADQ:ANDW), a global communications systems equipment supplier, has acquired selected assets of Yantai Fine Cable Company, a manufacturer of products for telecommunications and broadband cable TV infrastructure providers. The assets have become part of a new subsidiary, Andrew Broadband Telecommunication (Yantai) Company Ltd. that will occupy the former Yantai Fine Cable manufacturing premises in Yantai, in China’s Shandong province. Over 300 former Yantai Fine Cable Company employees, including specialist cable engineers, became Andrew employees. Financial details of the transaction are not disclosed. “This strategic acquisition brings us high-quality subscriber-access drop cable for the critical last mile in broadband cable TV infrastructure,” said John DeSana, Group President, Cable Products, Andrew Corporation. “It augments our existing coaxial cable product lines and global manufacturing and distribution network, enhancing our solutions for broadband network operators.” Principal products manufactured by Andrew Broadband Telecommunications will include: * braided 75 ohm subscriber access cable for broadband networks * braided 50 ohm cable for broadband wireless, Wi-Fi, telematics, and microwave backhaul applications * braided 50 ohm cable for in-cabinet wireless jumper assemblies The Yantai facility is ISO 9001 certified, the internationally recognized standard for quality systems, and has Underwriter Laboratories, Inc. (UL) certification. The products are fully compliant with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, Inc. (SCTE) standards. The SCTE promotes the sharing of operational and technical knowledge in the specialist field of cable TV and broadband communications.
