I'd love to see some economist do a calculation as to how many jobs were lost due to the collapse of the travel industry? People are spending their travel dollars on their homes or saving in bank accounts. Add in that businesses want to cut biz travel to save money AND keep key employees from high risk activity (who wants to send top employees to Asia with SARS?) All this gave a boost to productivity software that allows video meetings and collaboration which replaces those travel jobs had companies not been forced to look for alternatives... It is not just in the news either. I've noticed perma bears are usually pessimists who often don't like people while perma bulls are often the exact opposite.
