Hi GST; Re: "Top Israeli Officer Says Tactics Are Backfiring"

We've already seen that news yesterday (#reply-19447948 ) and the believers ignored it completely then. Why would anyone suppose that they're going to suddenly open their eyes now? They're similarly ignoring the fact that Zogby, who ran a poll of Iraqis, reported that we're widely hated there.

What they're doing is simply ignoring all evidence to the contrary of their hopes and dreams. They're in "prayer" mode, and really don't want to hear anything other than "amen!"

Yes, Ya'alon disagrees on tactics - and it's creating quite a fuss because he leaked it to the papers.

In war, which tactics are are the best is something that is generally fully discernible only after they are tried. For example, the chorus of voices saying that the bombing Belgrade in the Kosovo war as counterproductive was very loud and long - until Milosevic caved. If he hadn't caved, the chorus would have been triumphant.

So far, the Palestinian response seems to be not so much caving as disintegrating - as the violent semi-chaos that Arafat fosters devolves into just plain chaos as Arafat weakens and moves off the scene.
