The newspaperman has engaged in a simplistic distortion of it. Also, all sorts of other data make it clear that income is being made. Despite lower tax rates, for example, revenues are nearly the same this year as last. Personal income and employment income are up. None of that comports with the notion that 15 to 20 percent of the people who were employed before Bush are suddenly discouraged and unemployed.

If the number is 10 percent or higher now, then it was probably 8 or 9 percent under Clinton and not 5.
