the Gorilla Game does not seek to identify the gorilla before it becomes one

That's not entirely true.
There is an algorythm in which an emerging technology is identified which may spawn a gorilla. Investments are made in all the leading candidates (which should contain the eventual gorilla at a good price), and then the candidates are paired down as events unfold that eliminate them. Any money from the culling is spread among remaining candidates. The result has a good chance of stocking your portfolio with a gorilla at the early price range with a bit of dollar cost averageing to boot.
