You misunderstand who rely on dividends. The elderly in large proportion depend on dividends. Dividends vs. tax deferred is a trade-off.

Don't forget the "death tax" Lizzie! I think the government should get ALL of a persons assets when they die, especially hideously wealthy people. If they want for their childeren to have some, let 'em give it to 'em while they're alive! I think it would reduce the deficit, and have everyone on a more level playing field in life.
