If "cute" were the thing Edwards would be winning big.
Looks aren't everything, but people do prefer a certain presidential quality, with a touch of gravitas. Thanks to TV, the one who looks most presidential, sincere and comfortable on TV usually wins, regardless of policies.

That's a big part of Arnold's victory and Reagan's as well. Clinton was very telegenic but had warmth and boyish charm instead of gravitas. That he picked up later. Bush has a folksy charm and has taklen on gravitas, but is not good unless he's got the scripts and props just right. Dean isn't that great, ditto Gephardt, but they're passable. Clark and Kerry are the most telegenic IMHO. Clark looks you right in the eye and hsa a good smile. Kerry just looks like central casting for POTUS, and has the brain and orator's skills to back it up. The worst are Lieberman, Cheney and Kucinich. Graham also didn't have it.
