Re: Bush cheated and lied to beat McCain in South Carolina. Typical. Bush was totally scurrilous, unscrupulous, craven, crass and corrupt in the way he allowed Karl (Dr. Mengele) Rove operate on McCain in South Carolina. Did I mention Bush was vile and despicable? All the while wearing his smarmy smirk while his brain was operating a deceitful racket. ******** Re: What good is a surge unless it's right before and during a primary vote? Take a note here, son. Governor Dean had a surge last summer that moved him from the second tier to front runner. He brilliantly (or luckily, depending on your point of view) maneuvered to get on the cover of three major news magazines in August. His "Sleepless in Summer" tour was a sensation. This was the summer springboard that sent his name familiarity way up, and yielded the largest quarterly campaign finance report ever for a Democratic candidate, bringing even more excitement and interest his way. Dean is using the summer surge to build an inexorable momentum that is getting harder and harder for a soft shoe type like Kerry to overcome. Kerry may be just the sort of regal patrician who will appeal to the squishy centrists. And he'll get the party faithful. But Kerry's problem isn't winning the general election. It's how to overcome the Dean momentum in the early primaries. It'll be interesting to see how Kerry tries to do it. ******* Re: Four years ago, Bush was ahead by 33% in New Hampshire and McCain beat him a few months later. Basically, because Bush arrogantly stayed away from New Hampshire and McCain stepped into a void. Dean isn't making the same mistake.
