"Any political solution is completely intractable while Arafat lives." The "dead Arafat" premise is false in my opinion. I think the problem is deeper than Arafat and includes problems with Israeli policy.


I agree if you're saying that Arafat's death won't "cure" the problems. It will merely move the problem from "completely intractable" to "extremely difficult"

You just cannot make peace if the other guy wants a war. There are deep schisms in the Palestinian leadership. Major figures, such as Abu Ala, realize that the intifada strategy was a mistake and want to abandon it. But none of them is strong enough to unseat Arafat and his goons.
