They change the laws on entitlements all the time!

mostly to the detriment of younger workers.

Social Security is a prime example:
-Taxes continue to increase on younger workers
-Benefits continue to be cut for younger workers
(e.g., increased retirement age).

Younger workers (as a whole) haven't "woken up"
to the fact that they are truly being "ripped off"
and will eventually get NOTHING from Social Security.
This speaks well of the skills of our politicians to
successfully lie to people!

The fact that the younger workers haven't yet "woken up"
is the ONLY thing that is keeping these fraudulent
programs going right now!

"A certain level of defense spending has to be sustained."

And just what might that level be, in your opinion?

Please give your answer as a % of the total federal
budget or as a % of the annual GDP.

Sad to say but most of Bush's tax cuts have to be rescinded, or else they will be replaced by other types of user and local taxes or else the government goes bankrupt. There simply isn't enough revenue coming in to pay for all the NECESSARY programs, not to mention some of the ones which are a really good idea, like getting ourselves off oil addiction and onto cleaner fuels, education and health care. If those tax cuts are not rescinded, the dollar will keep going down, the government will go bust and eventually debt and inflation will kill the economy as it did during the Carter years. Also we'd have to start making deep cuts into programs like defense.

One area we should be cutting are farm subsidies. 190 billion a year for those.
