Everything has an historical perspective. The French were in Vietnam before us and nobody blames them. That's the ticket....be like the French.

Of course the problem with this notion of yours it that it has nothing to do with the facts. The reason we were in Vietnam differs fundamentally from why we are in Iraq. Vietnam may or may not have had to do with whether the Vietnamese wished us there. Such considerations are irrelevant where Iraq is concerned. Iraq agreed to certified disarmament and failed to uphold its obligations. That alone was, and yet is, logically and morally sufficient to justify our entrance into that country to effect our own certification.
