Given that the morbidity and mortality caused by the disease of Tribalism is so severe, I think we can tolerate some side effects in the cure. Antipsychotics help when the problem is a split and inaccurate view of the world: We wear the 100% White Hats, They wear the 100% Black Hats, even though we both do the same things. When the leader of the Free World admits he is hearing voices, which are commanding him to go send 200,000 people to the other side of the planet and kill Others, and everyone accepts this as normal, perhaps the mass application of antipsychotics is needed. So, you may be right. But before we deal with the cognitive processing-not, and the resultant illusions and God whispering commands to kill, I think the anxiety must be addressed: The fear of mushroom clouds delivered by plywood drones, the fear of chemical weapons distributed to Saddam's artillery units, the fear of Hun beasts raping our women and bayonetting our children, the fear of Red Savages scalping us. The fear of the Other. A little valium never hurt anyone.
