Bubba I recall the printers imported knocked down into Brazil. They were imported into the US. Disassembled and them exported to Brazil.

The microwave radios from Siemens, made in Italy, were imported into Brazil, assembled into a factory hall, tested and came out as with local "content" which would qualify them for tax exemption.

Brazil would import electronic products into the Amazonian jungle town of Manaus, were duly 'maquilado' and 'screw driven', put in a box and sent to the rest of the country.

Paraguay has a busy town (Puerto Stroessner) whose sole purpose is to supply foreign products into Brazil and Argentina. The whole thing of protectionism is ridiculous!!!
