Most people don't realize that an after tax, after expense profit of 2-3% is very good indeed.

Yes, the supermarket chain I once worked for made about 3 cents per dollar of sales -- a 3% Return on Sales). This is the figure you tell the customers when they are complaining about high prices.

But the really interesting statistic is Return on Investment (ROI). Spin each dollar around the buy-sell loop 10 times in a year and you have 3% x 10 = 30% ROI. That, of course, is the one you tell the stockholders. :o)
