Thanks much for the informative discussion of the German energy situation.

Re: Currently in Germany the developments are underway to significantly increase the working temperature in (planned or actual? dont remember) coal and gas power stations to improve the yield.

If you ever happen upon a URL on this matter, I'd be interested in following up on this. I have an acquintance who is a combustion engineer. My sense of things from his comments is that there is a potential for incremental increases in working temperatures in power plants, but that the really "significant" efficiencies are already pretty much incorporated in contemporary designs.

Here in the U.S., new gas fired generators are already causing obsolescence of gas fired plants that were installed a couple decades ago.
