It might also encourage other countries to pick up more of the cost, but we'd have to eat a lot of crow and humble pie first, apologizing for the whole Bush administration. As to Iraqi Shiites not wanting a theocracy - what makes you think they wouldn't want one? Iraqi Shiites might think they could avoid the Iranian mistakes. Especially after so many years of Sunni-Saddam control? Do you think the US would allow one if they did?
