Iraq is positioned next saudis and syria, the biggest supporters of terrorism. Having a friendly democratic state next to those might resolve a number of issues

Let's not forget the IRA, a well-known terrorist group who've engaged in a decades long fight against one of the US's closest allies, England. Blair might be quietly grateful for a little invasion force in Northern Ireland? Who says libs don't have a sense of humor ;-)
