Gov't is the worst choice, except when necessary.
Such things as common defense, adminstration of laws, and in our information age, providing tools to avoid massive extortion of the public. There is no one else to do this job.

It would be somewhat different if the drug cos and lobbyists weren't perverting Big Gov't by purchasing politicians, writing predatory bills, and getting them passed. The current situation gives the business/gov't combine greater power over information than the people who own this country.

You look upon the Government as a benign source that is here to help you.

It IS a benign source if we're looking for data, which is what MSI suggested. Providing data is one thing the government is good at and the most trustworthy of sources available to us. I'd love to have that particular data base. I think it would help both improve our health and cut health care costs. Armed with that information, we could seek out the most appropriate care for the least cost.
