Vietnam in Size compared to Iraq in Size....No Comparison! As a Vietnam veteran of both the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force, something that I don't think that the American public is fully cognizant of is this: Vietnam is a country slightly larger than my home state of New Jersey. At the high point of the Vietnam war the US had more than 500,000 troops in an area the size of New Jersey. I am pointing this out because I was witness to combat in which our adversary had no air force, no navy, no special forces, no really capable sophisticated way of delivering intelligence beyond that of your average Vietnamese village "mama and papa sans," but even with their seemingly weak and inadequate war machine they still managed to beat the tar out of our much more fully armed to the teeth modern forces! Now in Iraq, you have a place that is the size and scope of California! When you consider the geographical size of Iraq with respect to the geographical size of Vietnam the comparison becomes ever so much more frightening in how one can "see" just exactly what type of conflict is being played out there and is beginning to take on a deadly life of its own. The terrorists streaming into Iraq from all across the globe understand this fact. My question becomes: Do [we] Americans understand? Basically, what we have done is put 150,000 troops, if that number is even correct, into a maelstrom of Islamic fury and retribution! And they are slowly picking them apart, piece by little piece, bit by little bit, day by agonizing day. How long does this slaughter have to continue? When will Americans say enough?
