Using Opera 6.0+ as a browser and installing all the SUN Java thingies is good. With Opera you can cancel all popups. A 300 Mhz computer with 128 megs ram will cruise the Net with blinding speed on ADSL. Blinding. Page loads of good looking babes travelling across the screen can put your neck in a permanent kink and turn your eyeballs completely around in side your head. Dangerous. Opera operates on page caching so its pages load fast fast fast. You have to reload to see new stuff though, you just cannot go to a page all the time and expect auto updates. It remembers the last page and it goes into memory. You keep the page you were at on bar as buttons and switching is real easy. Remember to reload.

Primarily the way to speed up surfing is get more RAM memory. But faster later HD is good too. Setup your swap files properly in windows. Read how to do this. Setup your caching in explorer, Netscape or Opera for optimum speed. Sometimes too much cache is bad, but too little definitely is. Every once in a while clean our your cache if you are not using it. Deleting temp internet files is good sometimes. It is not an area they explore too much but it does cause problems.

300 bucks can do wonder for speed. Another area that is important that few people realize is Video card speed. Faster video cards like ATI rage latest or better (there are better cards) can dramatically improve speed. The faster bus computers are well, faster. Worth it.

Shorty there will be a big barrel chested guy pounding on your door, he will be wearing all black leather and he is about 300 pounds. He will say "Your computer upgrade is here, you got the money, bud? Well, how about it" Don't argue with him, please.

Russett - RE: "Good day to pick up some falling golds today." .
There are going to be much better days ahead for that!

Earlier you said: "It is a great time for hard rock junkies, and we have been waiting a long time for this."
Well said. And the good thing is, there's lots of time left before we are preaching to the converted!

Your advice to "buying some early and selling to freebies is the way to play." is a strategy I have never tried. I like it though.
