David, The reality is that CBS is coming to the understanding that (a) Reagan was, and still is, extremely popular, (b) even if he was NOT popular, their choice of timing is totally inappropriate, and (c) this mistake could cost CBS dearly.

(A) is not likely. CBS sure didn't know about Reagan's popularity until it bit them in the buttocks.

(B) is somewhat likely, but once again, CBS didn't seem to care before the criticism came.

(C) is most likely. It all comes down to money.

How much do you want to bet this goes on the air? The people in Hollywood know who Reagan was and he wasn't the saint you think he is.
