"I don’t think that Americans quite grasp that countries don’t like having foreigners bomb them. "

I heard a reporter from the NY Times this morning on NPR being interviewed on post-war Iraq (I forget his name now). He was quite scathing about the Pentagon's lack of planning and refusal to use the State Department's planning (personally, I think there's plenty of blame to go around on all sides on that issue. But I digress). He said that he has spent six months in Iraq, talking to hundreds of Iraqis. In the midst of all his scathing anti-Bush administration analysis, he confirmed that every Iraqi he's talked to, whether they are working with the Americans, or want the Americans out yesterday, is glad that the Americans invaded and removed the awful, brutal regime of Saddam Hussein.

So here we have a case where a country did like having foreigners bomb them, because what they had to live with before, was worse than the bombs. Iraqis wanted the war because it was the only way to get rid of Saddam Hussein. The evidence is overwhelming, face it.

Now, naturally, they want to fix everything instantly and leave. But that's another story.
