yes that is the CW
I'm not sure. I think it would be a huge improvement to relinquish some control that republicans have over the house and senate. I doubt very seriously the republicans will win both houses again, even if the dems can't beat Bush. Newsweek this week has "Bush's mess" on the cover and bullets of cronyism etc. (basically the complaints that everyone has about Bush) highlighted. The reason Newsweek can do a cover like that is because they know it will sell. They have a different cover on the web otherwise I'd give you a link but you can see it at the grocery stores. Not complementary at all I'd say.

...current polls not withstanding.

Actually, according to the Washington Post/ABC polls, Bush is slightly ahead, poll-wise, of where Clinton was at this time in his first term. And in a report yesterday, ABC says "Bush still tops his Democratic rivals in head-to-head match-ups, by margins ranging from nine to 18 points." The economy is only going to get better, helping him greatly. What could hurt him the most, IMO, is if this surge in attacks in Iraq that began with Ramadan continues unchecked for a lot longer and the news media turns from just critical and alarmist to downright defeatist.
