People often express certainty, when they have not really sampled with any depth, thus I think it is often purely a symptom of belief. The most certain people I have ever met are the religious- and of course they have all been certain about different, and contradictory, religions. The fact that the man might hold contradictory passionate and "certain" ideas, in no way proves his credibility for either of those contradictory passions. The best misleaders are always the people who believe their own propaganda. It's very hard to evaluate their credibility- that's why anecdotes aren't very handy, imo.
