Here's the pledge that I've taken: ariannaonline.com PARTNERSHIP FOR A POLL-FREE AMERICA A joint project of Arianna Huffington and Harry Shearer There is a specter America. It happens daily--practically hourly. It affects the life of every person in our country. And you can help stop it. The problem is that what our country needs and what 500 people say they want are often two different things. There is, however, a way to join the two together: leadership. But because of public opinion polls, our political leaders have been turned into spineless followers. But get rid of public opinion polls and maybe the natural selection of our political process will once again reward the fittest leaders. Clearly, our politicians will be no help in the fight--the demand side is too strong. But you can affect the supply. By signing your name, email address, and (optional) street address, you can pledge to say no to pollsters. The follow through is easy: when pollsters call, just refuse to answer any questions. Once enough people join us, poll results will become useless, and our leaders will be forced to lead. JUST SAY NO! ********* The kind of silly time-waster that you just posted from the Washington Post is beneath the intellectual capacity of this thread. We don't need to see this Democratic Presidential contest as a a horse race. We ought to rise to the occasion, act like intelligent adults and discuss policy, share strategies, riff on the latest tactics of the candidates and engage our brains. Reading the silliness of some bored journalist report numbers that will be completely meaningless next week is beneath our dignity. Be watching for my next rant..... Where I suggest that money is not free speech, and obsessive navel-gazing about which candidate is collecting the most bribes is also corrosive to the process of self-rule in a rapidly vanishing democracy like America.
