Facing intense foreign competition on their home turf, domestic Chinese distributors are fighting back.
Many domestic distributors are adopting the competitive tools of foreign rivals--design services and the acquisition of a greater number of franchised lines. Some larger distributors have embraced automated supply chain management systems for their internal operations, but feel little pressure yet to bring customers into an SCM network.

The total available distribution market in China this year is estimated by iSuppli Corp. to be $13.1 billion. The company predicts that distributors in China will account for 65% of all semiconductor shipments into the country, a level that rivals the market share of distributors elsewhere in the world.
