Bob,
Only interest was preventing a too stiff flat tax from destroying young families just starting out. No deductions except a liberal one for a normal size family, to encourage some procreation. Dont you want your kids to sell some cars down the road. Need a next gen for that. We geysers will be too old and too blind to drive no matter how long we live. Seriously, Steve Forbes had this in his proposal when he ran for president. Think of the young two earner family making 100k forking out 20k in fed taxes 14k in fica/medicare and $3k in state--37% tax on all income is what it amounts to. Way too high, thus a per person deduction for workers and some allowance for a normal size family.
Other way is to change SS to a semi-welfare program and eliminate the worker portion of the contribution at least. Most folks against that. mike
PS I am obviously not a libetarian. Although i hold many libetarian precepts, I find it dangerous as an ideology unto itself. But having expressed that view, i certainly am not a class warrior. I believe in keeping as much of what you earn as is possible in a mixed capitalist society.
